An Integrated Value Chain and Responsibility for Estonia’s Food Security
What makes Maag Food unique is its strong and controlled value chain, extending from pig and poultry farming all the way to the finished products that reach consumers’ tables. All our production is domestic, ensuring consistent and closely monitored quality. Together with our subsidiary Maag Agro, we are Estonia’s largest agricultural enterprise and the country’s largest pig and broiler producer. This means taking responsibility for the entire process – from feed production and animal farming to processing, packaging, logistics and sales.
As Estonia’s largest food producer, we play a key role in ensuring the country’s food security and security of supply. Our products consistently reach store shelves across Estonia, and consumers and business partners can trust that they are domestically produced, of high quality and compliant with all European Union safety and quality standards. Transparency, strict quality control and high hygiene and safety standards are central to everything we do.
We employ approximately 2,300 people across the Baltics and Finland, 1900 of them work in Estonia. Our production facilities and farms are located throughout Estonia, largely outside Harju County, providing stable employment opportunities in regions where job options may otherwise be limited. For example, Maag Food’s Rakvere meat processing plant is one of the largest employers in Lääne-Viru County, employing approximately 700 people, while around 200 people work at our dairy plant in Põlva. In total, we operate five major production plants in Estonia, producing both meat and dairy products, as well as numerous smaller facilities. In addition to our farms and production sites, our operations include a logistics centre and offices.
